Region: Sicilia, Italy
Grape: Nerello Mascalese
Style: Deep and complex
Pair with: Pheasant, Duck ragu Pasta, Claypot Mushroom Rice
This robust red wine is made from organically grown Nerello Mascalese grapes hand harvested from old bush vines (60-100 years old) on Mt Etna's northern slopes in Sicily. After that, it is aged in Qvevri, also known as Anforas. The wine has complex aromas of strawberry, plums, wild plums, bramble, and white flowers, as well as a long and tense finish. On the palate, there are notes of red and black cherries, as well as spice and minerality. With its high acidity and fine, dusty tannin profile, the wine is austere and ethereal in its youth. It is complex and will truly express its provenance with bottle age. If you like Amarone, the intensity and complexity of this wine will not disappoint.
