General
Who is Drunken Farmer?
At Drunken Farmer, we believe minimal intervention brings endless possibilities.
In the pursuit of genuine, unfiltered experiences, we strive to introduce a natural alternative for every conventional bottle of wine on each table. To this end, we seek out unique wine flavours to share with our community, celebrating the distinctive characteristics found in each bottle of natural wine while making it accessible to wine lovers everywhere.
Drunken Farmer first found its roots as a nomadic wine bar, before finally settling down at Common Man Stan on Stanley Street in March 2021. A couple years and many bottles later, we stayed true to our roots and the desire to make natural wines accessible by bringing the wine shop to every home. We now fully reside at drunkenfarmer.sg and supply to our partners, enhancing the dining experience wherever you are.
Armed with knowledge, experience, and passion, we delight in sharing the stories of our partners and forming connections with our community, vinted through a love for all things natural.

What is the difference between Organic, Biodynamic and Natural Wine?
Organic wines are certified organic. That word ‘organic’ is interpreted differently across wine growing regions but essentially these are wines made from grapes that have been grown organically, without artificial chemicals to fertilise the soil, kill insects or deter fungus. Organic farming is not technology-free or chemical-free but the chemicals and treatments used must be organic. There are some great organic wines out there but some pretty average ones too; a certificate doesn’t guarantee quality, it guarantees compliance.
Biodynamic wines are made with a set of farming practices that views the farm or vineyard as one solid organism. It's a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition. Biodynamics is rooted in the work of philosopher and scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner, whose 1924 lectures to farmers opened a new way to integrate scientific understanding with a recognition of spirit in nature.
Natural wines are not about certification; they’re about love. Made by nature; simple as that. Natural winemakers – the producers we know and cherish – reject technology and artificial chemicals and only use naturally occurring yeasts (as opposed to cultured yeasts) during fermentation. While some add very small amounts of sulphites to preserve freshness, some don’t, which means natural wines are best drunk fresh, as nature intended. That’s why we make sure all our wines are super fresh.

How do I store natural wines?
Storing natural wines properly is important to preserve their unique characteristics. Natural wines generally have a shorter shelf life than conventional wines. Many are meant to be consumed within a few years of bottling. Here are some tips for storing natural wines:
- Keep natural wines at a consistent cool temperature, ideally between 10-15°C.
- Protect natural wines from direct sunlight and strong artificial light.
- Store wine bottles with corks horizontally to keep the cork moist.
- A dedicated wine cellar or a wine fridge can provide the ideal conditions with controlled temperature, humidity, and protection from light.
- Regularly check the condition of the wine, especially if storing for extended periods. Look for any signs of spoilage, such as leakage or off smells.
Why are there sediments found in the natural wine bottle?
Sediments found in natural wine are common and can occur for several reasons:
- Natural wines often undergo minimal or no filtration and fining processes to maintain the wine's natural character and complexity.
- The absence of filtration means that yeast cells and proteins can remain in the wine. Over time, these can settle at the bottom of the bottle, forming sediment.
- Red wines, in particular, contain tannins and pigments that can precipitate out of the liquid as the wine ages. This is a natural process and is more likely to be noticeable in natural wines that are not heavily processed.
- Natural wines may contain tartrates, which are crystals that can form from tartaric acid naturally present in grapes. These are harmless and sometimes referred to as "wine diamonds.
- Sediment can also form as a natural part of the aging process. As the wine matures, various compounds can aggregate and settle.
Sediments are a natural and harmless part of many natural wines. To avoid pouring sediment into your glass, it's recommended to let the bottle stand upright for a while before opening to allow the sediment to settle at the bottom. Decanting the wine can also help separate the liquid from the sediment.
