Kai 2018
Region: Venezia Giulia, Italy
Grapes: Friulano
Style: Orange Short Maceration
The "Kai" is a Friulano born from ancient vines of 80 years rooted on the classic marl soil of the Friuli, called "Ponka". On the nose, intense elderflower, beeswax, peach in syrup and sweet spices. Med-bodied sip, enveloped by intense freshness and a pleasant tannic grip.
Grapes from the Gradiscutta cru on the feet of Mount Calvario are picked up in the first two weeks of September in the colder morning hours and immediately carried to the cellar to preserve the aromatic structure; they are destemmed and put in open-topped vats for some days with their skins. After a light pressure, wines are racked to big Slavonian oak casks and left with the fine lees for at least two years.
